Flores

This island was included in May 27, 2009 list of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves of UNESCO, joining the island of Graciosa and Corvo that also includes the list already.

Fact that is relevant to the protection and enhancement of the environment in the Azores. This decision to include the island of Flores in the list of sites with environmental relevance was taken by the International Coordinating Council of the program "Man and Biosphere"during the meeting yesterday on the island of Jeju, (do not know if it is caught or separated) in Republic of South Korea

UNESCO states that this reservation includes the entire island, and that this is due to present aspects of this island a well preserved nature where we can observe an abundance of forest characteristic of the forests of Macaronesia Laurisilva typical of a landscape, geological, environmental and cultural importance, and also adjacent marine areas. The UNESCO document also notes the characteristics of exceptional interest to the new classified sitethe existence of " high cliffsthat dominate most of the coastline which is dotted with small islets .
